Home Office

St. Norbert College

Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center

Community First Credit Union wanted to align their new home office environment with their brand promise to put the community and its members first. That promise is clearly translated into a design that places members at the heart of all that drives the financial organization and its services.

The interior design incorporates intentional customer experience zones, many of which are next practices for financial institutions. The facility features a comfortable openness while maintaining the necessary levels of access, control, and security common to all financial institutions.

Architects and engineers worked with Community First to answer two fundamental questions which led to the conclusion that a new building was the ideal solution: How can we create continuity, and, how do we uncover new opportunities to advance their mission? The credit union and financial industries are evolving. The needs of the members, while fundamentally unchanged, are being met in new ways. This shift in services, their delivery as well as expectations and culture influenced the design of interior spaces to accommodate increased flexibility, meeting the progressive needs of the credit union’s members and workforce mix.

The architects and engineers created an almost 100% day-lit interior, live plants, incredibly open work areas and amenity spaces that are multi-purpose. All are radiating out from a two-story lobby which greets you upon entering the building.

The Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center is the home of St. Norbert’s basketball, volleyball and swimming teams. The facility has undergone a $26-million expansion and renovation which was completed in May 2017. The refurbished and enlarged facility features a state-of-the-art fitness center and a new swimming pool on the east side of the sports center, looking out to the Fox River.

Boasting 129,400 square feet of space, the building also includes new administrative offices for the athletics staff, health and wellness services, and the addition of a second floor. Its arena provides a 116-by-230-foot multipurpose area with a seating capacity of 2,500 for major sporting events and up to 5,000 for other high-attendance programs. The arena offers a full collegiate basketball court, an indoor track, four volleyball courts and four intramural basketball courts.

The gymnasium is all that remains from the original 1978 construction and is included in the new 126,000 square foot facility that houses a new pool, fitness center, health and wellness center, performance center, locker rooms, offices, and lobby.

The new building wraps around the existing gym to provide a more cohesive face toward the downtown edge of campus and takes advantage of its location facing the Fox River on the western edge of campus.
